Five Best Morning Stretches

Mornings can be difficult. Some days, the alarm goes off way too early because we had a hard time sleeping the night before. Sometimes you dread the day before you start. You can jumpstart your day by getting out of bed to watch the sunrise. It’s even better if the sun rays can be felt on your skin.

You can start your morning with some stretches. They will help you to get out of bed and get ready for the day. You might find that these stretches change your perspective on the day. A good day begins with a positive outlook.

Stretching from the knees to the chest

Draw the knees inwards to promote digestion and blood flow. You can do this stretch while lying in bed.

  • As you lie on your back, slowly and evenly pull your knees up to your chest.
  • Hold the pose between 15 and 20 seconds.
  • Repeat the process 2 to 3 times.

Twist & Stretch

The supine turn hits your glutes and hips at the same time. This stretch is great for opening up the chest and increasing the range of motion in the spine. Twists also strengthen the abdominal muscles, massage the organs and help to release toxins.

  • Lay on your back, legs slightly spread.
  • Twist the pelvis so that you can place one leg over the other.
  • Your top leg should be facing the same direction as your head.
  • Repeat the process on the other side.
  • Breathe and take your time.

Butterfly Stretch

  • As you lie on your back, pull your feet gently up towards your pelvic region.
  • Bring your soles together.
  • Let your legs fall open, and your knees should be pointing out on each side.
  • This movement should be done gently so that your knees do not yoyo up.
  • Hold for 15-30 seconds and then release.


This stretch should be performed on the floor.

  • On your back, place your legs bent with your feet separated.
  • You should have your arms at your side.
  • By pressing down on your heels and squeezing the glutes, you can lift your hips.
  • Avoid arching your back.

Child Pose

This pose is familiar to anyone who has ever done Yoga.

  • Kneel with your legs hip-width apart, and your feet in front of you.
  • As you exhale, lower your torso so that it rests against your thighs.
  • Sit on your butts with your back facing your feet.
  • Straighten out your arms and palms and reach up with them. Cross them and rest your head on top.
  • You might not be able lower yourself completely depending on your flexibility.


Take a few minutes to stretch in the morning and find your happy place. Stretching in the morning gives you the time to mentally prepare and focus for the day.
